GALVANIZING

Electrogalvanizing is an electrolytic process in which electroconductive materials, mostly iron parts (cathode), are electrochemically covered by a layer of dissolved zinc (anode). Not to be confused with hot-dip galvanization in which the material to be treated is immersed in hot zinc bath of 450 °C. Both ways have their own distinctive use. Hot-dip galvanizing is suitable for structures large in size, electrogalvanizing for technically and structurally demanding parts. In case of the electrogalvanizing process we can choose between an alkaline and acidic one.

Manufacturing process

Receiving your goods

A suitable material for metal coating are especially iron parts and to a lesser extend also zinc or iron castings. To provide your products with galvanization of high quality it is neccessary to clean them from all rough scales, paint or deep rust beforehead. Cavities without an outlet or parts welded together on their surface should be avoided. Deliver your materials in appropriate transport cases or on pallets. At the handover, choose the packaging method, indicate the number of items in the delivery note and specify the time in which you want your products returned.

Galvanizing process

According to the type of your parts they are either hooked on a galvanic hinge (large parts) or placed in a plating barrel (small parts). Step by step, the parts are immersed in degreasing and pickling baths by automated conveyors. Afterwards, when their surface is hereby cleaned, the parts are covered by zinc layer, with the help of electric current. Subsequently, to increase their corrosion resistance the zinc coating is passivated, or, if need be, a sealing varnish coating is applied. The whole galvanizing process is ended by drying your parts and putting them back to the transport units.

What can you expect

Smooth surface of high quality and a glossy zinc layer. However, the visual properties of the metal plated part are significantly influenced by the quality of the input material. That is why rough, corroded and heat treated surfaces are still rough and less glossy even after the galvanization. When buying your material, you should also paid attention to the choice of lubricants for the processing itself.

Technologies

Galvanizing in alkaline cyanide-free bath - Olomouc

The bath consists of approximately 10% sodium hydroxide solution, in which ca. 10 g of zinc is dissolved in 1 l of the bath.

Advantages of this bath:

  • evennes of the Zn coating thickness
  • excellent depth efficiency
  • workspace:
    • width 300mm
    • height 800mm
    • length 2200mm

Galvanizing in slightly acid chloride bath - Prostějov

The bath consists of approximately 15% potassium chloride solution and contains around 30 g of dissolved zinc in 1 l of the bath.

Advantages of this bath:

  • higher speed of Zn coating
  • the Zn coating is glossier
  • workspace:
    • width 300mm
    • height 1000mm
    • length 2000mm
